# Birdeye alternatives for retail chains, and what Birdeye costs

> For a chain of 10 stores or more, the choice is a tool your team runs or the work done store by store. Ocally fits chains that want the work done: Kai answers each store's reviews from its own facts, nothing posts without your yes, and two people are included. Reputation suits enterprise survey programs with public prices, SOCi social plus reviews, Podium text-first stores, and GatherUp low-cost review requests.

For 10 stores or more, the real choice is who does the work at each store. What Birdeye does well, what it costs with the people, what its terms say, and why Ocally fits chains wanting the work done.

A comparison page by Ocally, which builds one of the tools compared, so it is not neutral. Prices and features checked on each company's own site on 2026-10-06. 26 sources, cited inline as [n] and listed at the end.

## Key takeaways

- For 10 stores or more, decide who does the work at each store before you compare features.
- Birdeye publishes no prices. Its pricing page asks for your location count and contact details, then quotes [1].
- Its standard terms auto renew for the same length unless you give 90 days' written notice, and add 8% [3].
- A tool's price leaves out the staff hours and agency that run it. Ocally's price includes the work.
- Ocally fits chains that want each store's reviews handled from its own facts, with your yes and two people included.

You run reviews for a chain of 10, 40 or 200 stores, and the Birdeye renewal is on the calendar. The real decision is who does the work at each store. Birdeye gives your team a broad platform and AI agents to oversee, and its terms leave checking the AI's work to you [3]. Ocally gives you Kai, who answers each store's reviews from its own facts, waits for your yes, and comes with two people. That makes Ocally our pick for chains that want the work done store by store. If you'd rather run a tool yourselves, Reputation, GatherUp, Podium or SOCi may fit better, and we say where.

## What Birdeye does well

Birdeye is one of the broadest platforms in this category, built for brands with many locations:

- **Reviews from almost everywhere.** It pulls reviews from more than 200 sites into one place and alerts you by email or text [5].
- **Agents that ask, reply and share.** Its review agents ask for reviews, reply in your brand voice and turn good reviews into posts. Replies can post on their own or wait for approval [7].
- **Built for franchises.** It supports corporate-led, franchisee-led and hybrid setups, with tiered approvals, permissions for each location and more than 3,000 integrations [6].
- **Far more than reviews.** In September 2026 Birdeye launched three AI coworkers running 27 agents, from search and social to calls and tickets. It says its agents have replied to more than 12 million reviews [4].
- **Fair review requests.** Its terms bar review gating: every customer gets the same way to leave feedback, whatever their mood [3]. Asking only happy customers breaks Google's rules ([what Google bans](https://ocally.co/blog/how-to-remove-google-reviews.md)).

Users rate it well: 4.7 out of 5 from 707 reviews on Capterra, as of late September 2026 [8], and one Reddit user praised its view of every location in one place [23]. If Birdeye does what you need at a price that works, staying is a fine answer.

## Birdeye pricing: what it publishes today

Birdeye pricing is not public. On October 6, 2026, its pricing page shows no plans and no numbers. It asks for your contact details and number of locations, and says pricing is "built around outcomes, not seat counts," with one contract and payment only for what you deploy [1]. In February 2026 the page showed three plans, each priced per location per month after a form: Starter (reviews, listings and messaging), Growth (adds social) and Dominate (adds a chatbot) [2].

So you can't compare Birdeye with anything until you've talked to sales; a restaurant owner on Reddit called that outreach relentless, while rating Birdeye the strongest option at first look [22]. If reviews and listings are the job, ask for a quote for just those, at your exact store count.

## What Birdeye really costs: the tool plus the people

A review tool's price leaves out the people who run it. Someone reads the alerts, checks the AI's drafts, calls the upset customer and fixes the Saturday line that keeps showing up in reviews. In a chain, that is staff hours, an agency, or store managers' evenings. For mid-sized businesses, WebFX puts an agency's reputation management at $2,501 to $5,000 a month [26]. Ocally's price includes the work: Kai does it, two people check it, and your team approves.

A chain also needs more than one job done. Ocally’s plan covers listings, reviews, local search, social and AI answers at every store, so the fair comparison is the same work bought the usual way: Birdeye for its part, the other tools and agencies a chain pays for the rest, and the staff time to run them. Every default below is the low end of a published price. Birdeye quotes only, so its line is an example, not a Birdeye price: $200 a store a month, above Reputation’s public $80 to $150 per location [10] and below the more than $300 a month one new single-location owner on Reddit said Birdeye quoted [21]. Type your own quotes over any line.

**The same scope of work for 25 stores, a month (listings, reviews, local search, social and AI answers; the low end of published prices; use your own numbers):**

| Line | Basis | Tools, agencies and people | Ocally |
|---|---|---|---|
| Birdeye (reviews and listings) (example; Birdeye quotes only) | $200 per store | $5,000 | |
| AI answers tracker (Peec AI Pro, 150 prompts) | $245 a month | $245 | |
| Local SEO agency (chains of 20+ stores, "often $5,000+") | $5,000 a month | $5,000 | |
| Social media agency (mid tier, $2,000 to $5,000) | $2,000 a month | $2,000 | |
| AI search agency to fix what the tracker finds (small business low end, $1,500 to $5,000) | $1,500 a month | $1,500 | |
| Staff time to run the tools and agencies | 1 hour per store a week at $54 an hour | $5,850 | |
| Ocally | from $500 per store: Kai, a growth engineer and a growth specialist | | $12,500 |
| Your team's time approving Kai's work | 0.25 hour per store a week | | $1,463 |
| **Total a month** | | **$19,595** | **$13,963** |
| Per store a month | | $784 | $559 |

At 25 stores, even at the cheapest published prices, the same work costs about $19,595 a month bought as tools, agencies and staff hours ($784 a store), against about $13,963 for Ocally with your team’s approval time ($559 a store). That’s about $5,633 a month less with Ocally, $67,590 a year. At mid-range agency prices, the gap grows by thousands a month [26]. Birdeye’s standard terms also add 8% at each automatic renewal [3], so the gap grows every year you renew.

## What most buyers don't know about Birdeye

Birdeye's standard terms are public, and a few lines in them matter more than any feature list. Your order form can change any of this, so read yours [3].

1. **It renews for a full term unless you give 90 days' written notice.** An agreement auto renews for the same length as the first term unless you send written notice at least 90 days before the renewal date (section 2.3) [3]. Reviewers on Trustpilot describe renewal and cancellation trouble in many recent 1-star reviews, though most reviews there are 5 stars [20].
2. **Renewal adds 8%.** For agreements signed from April 1, 2024, Birdeye adds an 8% "Innovation Fee" to recurring fees at each auto renewal, unless your agreement says otherwise (section 6) [3].
3. **Payments can't be cancelled.** Order form payments are non-cancellable and non-refundable (section 5.1) [3]. Capterra reviewers praise the breadth but name price, a learning curve and, in at least one review, trouble cancelling [8].
4. **Texting can carry carrier fees.** Birdeye may pass on the carriers' texting registration fees, called 10DLC (section 1.6) [3].
5. **Checking the AI is still your job.** The terms say AI output can be wrong, and that you must review and approve anything the AI produces or proposes, and that you alone are responsible for its accuracy (section 1.4.4) [3]. Replies can post on their own, but the risk stays yours.
6. **Some data goes when you leave.** Data in Birdeye that is owned or licensed by a third party is promptly destroyed, and your access ends, when the agreement ends (section 3.3.3) [3]. Export your review history first. And while Birdeye won't train AI on your identifiable data, it keeps the right to train its own AI on public data and anonymized client data (section 1.4.2) [3].

## The Birdeye alternatives, one by one

Seven options that fit a chain or franchise brand with 10 stores or more, each with what it's best for, its price and one honest limit.

### 1. Ocally (that's us)

**Best for:** chains and franchise brands of 10 stores or more that want the review work done store by store, with a yes on every reply and two people included.

Kai, Ocally's AI growth agent, treats every store as its own business. He reads each store's reviews on Google, Yelp, Facebook, Tripadvisor and Trustpilot through the day, plus private feedback from an in-store QR code. He drafts every reply from that store's hours, products, offers and past replies, and every claim must match a fact on record. He puts urgent reviews first and, when a customer needs more than a reply, writes a plan to make it right, with an owner and a deadline. He asks for reviews after real visits, never picking who to ask by how happy they seemed ([how Kai handles reviews](https://ocally.co/capabilities/reviews.md)).

Nothing posts until someone says yes. Then Kai posts the reply, reads it back to confirm it's live word for word, and keeps a receipt. Head office sees every store's rating, replies owed and repeat complaints side by side.

Every customer also gets two people: a growth engineer who connects your systems, and a growth specialist who checks Kai's work and brings your team along. Kai and the two people take on what the review tool, the agency and the store managers' evenings cover today; managers keep the customers who need a call. The same plan can cover each store's [listings](https://ocally.co/capabilities/listings.md), [local search](https://ocally.co/capabilities/local-search.md) and [AI answers](https://ocally.co/capabilities/ai-answers.md).

**Pricing:** customized, with a minimum of $500 per location a month, work and people included. The first consultation is free, and the two people are on Ocally to start.

**Where Ocally isn't the fit:** Ocally is young (founded 2026, design partners in Southern California, no published customers, results or security certifications yet), so judge it on one of your stores first. If you want software only and have the people to run it, GatherUp or Reputation costs less up front; if you want replies to post with no one approving them, Birdeye or Yext does that and Ocally won't.

### 2. Reputation

**Best for:** enterprise brands that want reviews, surveys and analytics in one place, at prices they can see.

Reputation gathers reviews from Google, Facebook, Yelp and industry sites into one feed, sends review requests by text or email, drafts replies with AI and scores every location [11]. It also sells managed services for replies, listings and social [10].

**Pricing (public):** Rep Core is $80 per location a month for reviews and listings, Core plus Pulse is $115 and Core plus Surveys is $150. Enterprise, for 125 locations or more, is custom [10].

**One limit:** competitive insights, ticketing, the social suite and premium review sources are upgrades, so price the setup you'd really use [10].

### 3. SOCi

**Best for:** brands with dozens to thousands of locations that want social, local search and reviews from one vendor.

SOCi's AI agents, called Genius, reply to reviews, create social posts, update listings and analyze results, trained on your brand guidelines and local context, with approval controls [15].

**Pricing:** quote only [15].

**One limit:** it is sold as a full local platform. If reviews are the whole job, ask whether you can buy them alone.

### 4. Yext

**Best for:** brands already on Yext for listings that want reviews on the same platform.

Yext tracks reviews from Google, Facebook, Yelp and more than 80 sites, sends review requests by email, text or QR code, and drafts replies for your approval, or replies on its own where you allow it [16].

**Pricing:** quote only [16].

**One limit:** its pull is reviews and listings together. For reviews alone, weigh it against the dedicated options here.

### 5. Chatmeter, now part of Alchemer

**Best for:** brands that want reviews, listings and a local page for each location.

Chatmeter keeps listings right across Google, Apple Maps and 70+ directories, builds a page for each location, and answers reviews with AI [14]. It says it has moved many former Yext and Birdeye clients, working around contracts that end at different times [12].

**Pricing:** quote only, per location, with unlimited users [12].

**One limit:** Alchemer bought Chatmeter in September 2025 [13], and Chatmeter's site says it is now fully part of Alchemer [14]. Ask how your contract and the product plan work under the new owner.

### 6. Podium

**Best for:** stores where most customer conversations happen by text, with payments and phones in the same place.

Podium puts texts, calls, web chat, and Google and Facebook messages in one inbox, sends review requests by text, drafts AI review replies, and adds promotional texts, payments and phones [9]. More in [Birdeye vs Podium](#birdeye-vs-podium) below.

**Pricing (public):** Core is $399 a month and Pro is $599. Signature, the plan with advanced multi-location management, is custom. Phone seats are $25 to $30 per user a month, plus a $500 network optimization fee per location [9]. Ask whether plan prices are per location.

**One limit:** it is built around messaging and leads, and its plan table names Google, Facebook and industry review sites [9]. If Yelp or Tripadvisor matter to your stores, confirm coverage.

### 7. GatherUp

**Best for:** chains that want review requests and monitoring at a low, published price.

GatherUp sends review requests by text and email, monitors 100+ review sites, lets you reply in the app, and adds widgets and bulk tools across locations. Listings Hub ($40 per location a month) and fake-review flagging are add-ons [17].

**Pricing (public):** billed annually, $99 a month for one location. Per location a month, it runs from $60 at 2 to 10 stores to $35 at 17 to 25 and $25 at 101 or more. Monthly billing costs more, and there is a 14-day free trial [17].

**One limit:** plans include 300 texts and 3,000 emails per location a month [17], so check the limits for busy stores.

**Two we left out.** Grade.us is built for agencies that resell review management [19], and NiceJob for service businesses such as home services [18]. Both fit their own lane better than a chain's head office.

## Birdeye vs Podium

Birdeye vs Podium is the head-to-head most people search. The two overlap less than it seems. More on Podium's pricing and terms: [Podium alternatives](https://ocally.co/compare/podium-alternatives.md).

| Birdeye | Podium |
|---|---|
| Reviews from 200+ sites | One inbox for texts, calls, chat and messages |
| Listings, social, AI search, surveys and tickets | Review requests by text, with AI replies |
| Franchise setups with approvals by location | Payments, phones and promotional texts |
| Replies post on their own or wait for a yes | Multi-location tools on the Signature plan |
| No public prices; quote by location count | Core $399 and Pro $599 a month, listed |

**Choose Birdeye** if reviews and reputation across many sites and locations are the core job, and you want listings, social and surveys under the same contract [4, 5, 6].

**Choose Podium** if your stores win sales in text conversations, and you want payments and phones in the same inbox [9].

Watch the extras on both: Podium charges for phone seats, a per-location phone network fee and $5 a month per US location for texting registration [9]; Birdeye's are [above](#before-you-sign).

## How to choose: a checklist for the demo

Take this into every demo, Birdeye's renewal call included, and get the answers in writing.

- [ ] What will it cost for our exact store count, including setup, add-ons, texting fees and phone seats?
- [ ] What happens at renewal: the notice period, any automatic increase, and whether we can drop stores?
- [ ] Which review sites does it cover for our stores, by name?
- [ ] Show a reply drafted for one of our real 1-star reviews. Does it use that store's facts?
- [ ] Can anything post without approval? Who approves at a franchisee-owned store?
- [ ] Does every customer get the same review request, whatever their mood?
- [ ] Who does the work day to day: our store managers, the vendor's team, or a paid service?
- [ ] Can we export every review and reply if we leave?
- [ ] Can we speak to a chain like ours that uses it today? (Ocally can't offer one yet.)

## Why chains choose Ocally

- **Each store is its own business.** A chain of 40 stores is 40 businesses, and one brand playbook leaves most of them underused. Each store gets its own plan, with results measured from its own starting point.
- **The work gets done, not a dashboard to manage.** Kai reads, drafts, ranks, posts and checks. Your team decides; it doesn't run the tool.
- **Two people included.** A growth engineer connects your systems, and a growth specialist checks Kai's work.
- **Nothing goes out without your yes.** Every reply, request and plan waits for approval, and every action keeps a receipt of what was done, where and why. Each business runs on its own isolated platform, and Ocally doesn't train AI on your data ([security](https://ocally.co/security.md)).
- **One plan instead of a stack.** Listings, reviews, local search, AI answers, social, messaging and [store routines](https://ocally.co/capabilities/store-operations.md), from the same knowledge of each store.

Bring the store with the most reviews nobody has answered, and compare on that one store.

## Questions

### How much does Birdeye cost?

Birdeye doesn't publish prices. Its pricing page asks for your number of locations and contact details, and quotes from there [1]. Its standard terms add 8% at each auto renewal, unless your agreement says otherwise [3]. Add the people who run it: staff hours to check the AI's work, and often an agency [26].

### Is Ocally cheaper than Birdeye?

For the work a chain needs done, yes. At 25 stores, an example Birdeye price of $200 a store plus local search, social and AI answers bought as tools and agencies, and the staff hours to run it all, come to about $19,600 a month even at the cheapest published prices, against about $14,000 for Ocally with your approval time [24, 25, 26]. Birdeye also adds 8% at each automatic renewal [3].

### Who are Birdeye's main competitors?

For multi-location brands: Ocally, which does the store-by-store work with two people included, and Reputation, SOCi, Yext and Chatmeter, which cover reviews and listings across many locations. Podium competes on texting and review requests, and GatherUp on price. Grade.us serves agencies, and NiceJob serves service businesses such as home services [18, 19].

### Is Birdeye or Podium better for a multi-location business?

It depends on the job. Birdeye is the broader reputation platform, with reviews from 200+ sites, listings, social, surveys and franchise controls [5, 6]. Podium is stronger if your customers text you: it puts texts, calls, web chat, payments and review requests in one inbox, and it lists its Core and Pro prices [9]. Ask both for a quote at your exact store count.

### How do I leave Birdeye at renewal?

Read your order form first, since it can change the standard terms. Under Birdeye's standard terms, an agreement auto renews for the same length unless you give written notice at least 90 days before the renewal date, and order form payments can't be cancelled [3]. Send notice in writing, and export your review history first: third-party data is destroyed when the agreement ends [3].

### What is the best Birdeye alternative for a franchise or retail chain?

If you want the work done store by store, Ocally: Kai answers each store's reviews from its own facts, nothing posts without a yes, and two people are included. It is young, so judge it on one store. For enterprise review and survey programs with public prices, Reputation [10]. For social and reviews from one vendor, SOCi [15]. For low-cost review requests, GatherUp [17].
